JULY 24, 2010 A Mountaineers BWT hike.
The weather was picture perfect for this hike along Sunrise Ridge to
Victor Pass in the Olympic National Park. We started our hike
along Sunrise Ridge, where the trail starts high and boasts some of the
best views in the park. Wildflowers were in bloom, most notably
the armies of avalanche lilies that enchanted me on
my hike here last year. There
was one snow patch on the trail that we opted to hike around by
scrambling down a short slope. A typical ridge hike, this trail
rolls up and down and dips in and out of woods before it joins the steep
switchback trail that leads up to Victor Pass and Klahhane Ridge.
The 360º views from Victor Pass are
stunning, with the Strait of Juan de Fuca in one direction and the
Olympic Mountains in another. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch with
these views before starting our return trip. At Hurricane Ridge
Visitor Center we saw many deer, especially on our return to the
trailhead.
