Trail of the Shadows
Wonderland Trail
| DECEMBER 2, 2007 - A Mountaineers snowshoe and my first
trip to Mt. Rainier in the winter. The original plan was
for a group of 8 of us to snowshoe to Reflection Lakes, but the weather
forecasts were not favorable and the road to Paradise was closed for the
day. Our group dwindled to 5 and our outing was re-routed to
Longmire, where we hiked the Trail of the Shadows, followed by a short
hike on the Wonderland Trail. The snow was soft and deep at
Longmire, and I discovered that breaking trail through deep snow
is very difficult! We saw a deer along the Trail of the Shadows
that did not shy away when we tromped past. We ate lunch beside
the Nisqually River before continuing on through the snowy woods.
