Longs Pass
Trail No. 1229
Elevation 6300' - 5 miles roundtrip
| JULY 8, 2006 - A Mountaineers hike as part of
a BWT and CHS weekend at Meany Lodge. It was already very warm
when we left the trailhead, elevation 4243', and the day just got hotter
and dryer as we hiked up the steep, exposed trail. The views
of the Esmerelda Peaks and Basin were lovely, and Mount Rainier was
faintly visible in the distance. Vegetation is sparse on this
trail, and rocks dominate the scenery. Mount Stuart remains hidden
on this hike until it makes a grand entrance immediately after you round
the last of many switchbacks. A real show-stopper, and a
magnificent backdrop for a lunch break before heading back down. |
