2009 was an interesting hiking year for me. I spent more time hiking with groups of people, but I completed few of the hikes on my "wish list." I spent more time hiking in Eastern Washington, but I hiked only once in the Teanaway. I didn't make the trip to many of my favorite destinations, and I only rarely glimpsed the Enchantments, which I had been stalking for the past two years. But I added snow camping to my repertoire, and I set out on my first long-distance backpack trip through the heart of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. I was challenged this year by weather and found myself out in thunderstorms and fierce winter conditions. It was an unusually good year for wildflowers, and it seemed like no matter where I went this summer, I found the wildflowers at their peak. |
