Surprise Lake

AUGUST 19, 2006 A Mountaineers hike. A beautiful hike along Surprise Creek, trail number 1060, in the Stevens Pass/Alpine Lakes area. The trail to Surprise Lake is 4 1/4 miles, with an elevation gain of 2300'. Surprise Lake is crystal clear, and the blue-green water mirrors the tall trees and white granite boulders that surround it. On this day, the weather gods were on our side, and we enjoyed clear blue skies and warm weather. We were joined at the lake by several gray jays and a chipmunk looking for handouts.
